- Monthly rates — always ask for monthly pricing, it's much cheaper per day
- Insurance — your credit card may include rental car insurance (check Amex, Chase)
- Fuel policy — "full-to-full" is always cheapest. Avoid pre-paid fuel
- Excess waiver — buy standalone excess insurance (e.g. iCarhireinsurance) for £3-5/day instead of the rental company's £15-25/day
